alcatraz, a damaged hull but no oil leak. the national transportation safety board is getting involved because of the magnitude the incident. look at the scene yesterday at 1111 -- 11:30 it sideswiped a 40' section of the fenders on the tower. but there no transportation disruption. the bridge is okay. this morning a cal tran spokes talk about it. >> it gave in and kept the moment imof the ship from touching the structure of the bridge. that is why we did not have to close it. we have to replace between 30' and 40' of material this is wood and plastic composite that we use to absorb the brunt of these incidents. >> a question that the coast guard is going to be asked when they have the news conference, was the ship moving with less than half a mile visibility? that brings to mind an incident in 2007 when there was quarter-mile visibility yesterday. the oil tanker has unloaded the oil at the refinery and went to oakland to refuel to make the next trip. it is capable of hauling half a million gallons of oil but it was empty from what it had been carrying. the crew has been detai

, the new promenade extends 880 feet into the heart of fisherman's wharf, the historic pier and alcatraz and it's perfect for watching the america's cup in 2013. it involved stabilizing the sea wall and some of the import infrastructure below the promenade, it was funded the 2008 clean and neighborhood parks bond, there are some additional dollars that tha* the port is lining to be allocated to continue that along the historic arch, it's a great site and i encourage everybody to visit it. i want to give you a quick update on the pool building, you've read a couple of stories this week, it was damaged by a fire on december 1 and very sadly on december 7, the leaders from variety of city department, fire department, department of building inspection, department of public works met with architectural experts and they determined the building was unsaved, it's a sad and many respects to a very amazing chapter in city history, that site over the last -- although the building has really been closed and on the down side since the 70s, it had a very glorious period of time which welcomed olympic

at 11:15 this morning for the sixth annual alcatraz winner swim. it will be cold. water temperatures in the mid-50s. even temperatures right now cooling down to the 30s. a live shot from emeryville looking out toward the bay and the bay bridge. we have the clouds moving in and we have some temperatures dropping, as well. but live doppler 7hd still not picking up any rain around the bay area. this will be a very different picture in the afternoon hours. so let's take a look at those numbers right now for those of you planning to go out early this morning. bundle up because it's only 32 in santa rosa and 31 in fairfield. some 40s out there in mountain view and in san jose. so we did have fog reported in santa rosa and livermore but we are actually a few degrees warmer than we were yesterday at this time with the cloud cover kind of act like a blaine debt so we don't lose as much heat overnight. the rain arrived after lunch for most of us today. showers continue overnight into tomorrow morning and then warmer, sunnier and dryer monday and tuesday. looking forward to that again. the sate

oil tanker, "overseas raymar", sitting here in san francisco bay, anchored between alcatraz and treasure island. the warning did come but it did not prevent the ship from hitting the bridge but it may have prevented a far worse accident. the investigation continues. look at the coast guard officials boarding the "overseas raymar" yesterday conducting their investigation and the national transportation safety department with their investigation when the oil tanker sideswiped the base of the tower on the west side. the coast guard has found out that it appears fog suspected earlier perhaps not a factor. also, the bar pilot got the warning. >> ntbs was in constant communication with the pilot before the incident. >> do you know what was being said and how the ship got off course? >> i don't have that information. the coast guard is investigating. >> a national transportati
